Research and Education

Understanding societal problems, such as lack of clean water, affordable power, and poor educational systems, is critical to identifying market needs and barriers that may be addressed through entrepreneurship, innovation and technology.

Each year since its founding, EFN has conducted research on the challenges we face, market trends and drivers, entrepreneurial leaders and technologies making a difference. Recent examples include writing chapters in Sustainable Communities (Springer Press), 2009, and The Startup Star, from Concept to Reality (Stanford University), 2010. Recent lectures and talks include a lecture on Innovation and Sustainability for the Columbia University, University of California at Berkeley Executive MBA speakers program.

This year we have also employed student interns from UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz and Occidental College to conduct research on clean energy policy, social entrepreneurship, and women and start-ups.
